The early evening
2007, video, 06'40"

The video "The early evening" shows the image of a building from a sunset and to the early evening in the middle of the city of Tokyo. The interior of the building rotates slowly 360 degrees in an hour like the rotation of the earth itself. The conversation between a man and a woman starts from about the vernal spring equinox and goes on to about the feeling of death and light.

In Japan this early evening between 18:00 and 20:00, a changing moment from daytime to nighttime is called "Yoinouchi". Traditionally this word has a romantic connotation, however, recently the Japanese weather forecasters decided not to use this word anymore. I try to represent my own interpretation and feeling of this specific time by using the image combined with the fictional conversation of the video.
